Unscripted
MJ DeMarco
The follow up to Fastlane. Less about what you make and more about who you have to become.
Unscripted is MJ DeMarco's second book, and it goes after something bigger than jobs. The Script is his name for the life most people are handed without choosing it: school, a job you don't love, a loan, the weekend as your reward, and retirement once you're too old to enjoy it.
A lot of it goes over the same ground as The Millionaire Fastlane, with the same energy and the same insults. What's new is his focus on the person doing the building. He talks about process over event, the idea that every success story that looks like one lucky moment was really years of unseen work. And he argues that businesses should serve people so well that the money follows, which he calls the Productocracy.
He's blunt about ideas too. An idea on its own is worth almost nothing until someone does the work of building it, and most people fall in love with the idea and never ship. That part fits the rest of this shelf, and the rest of this site.
It's longer and angrier than the first book, and it spends more time on mindset than on steps.
It's on the shelf next to Fastlane because they're one argument in two parts. The first book is about what to build. This one is about staying the kind of person who keeps building when the first few tries go nowhere.
